Levittown Radar Recipe: I have always found the history of Levittown and mass production of homes encompassing the stereotypes of suburbia to be an interesting concept. In the mixed media, narrative painting: Levittown Radar Recipe, I am visually reflecting on the perception of the American Dream and domestication; considering how current lifestyles/demands have dramatically changed, but at the same time an undercurrent of certain expectations have remained intact since the 1950s. Having fun with the notion of prosperity and the pride of materialism, I have built my suburbia on a hurricane radar map as a reminder of the instabilities of striving after another’s ideals. I have included personal family recipes on the facades of my invented suburban homes, replacing key ingredients with the highs and lows of a marriage.
