Heritage Habitat is mixed media (acrylic, ink, paint markers on canvas) piece pulling inspiration from my Scandinavian background. While working on my undergraduate degree, I studied Norwegian and Norse Mythology. Even though it has been many generations since my distant relatives lived in Norway, I felt a connection to the culture. As part of Heritage Habitat, I have included some of the phrases I remember while studying Norsk. Although I was not the best student, and unable fully grasp the unfamiliar language, I did develop an appreciation for my lost heritage. Heritage Habitat features some of the natural habitat elements found in Norway in addition to historical references. The mixed media piece is part of my platform series, employing both real and distorted perspective in order to provide a sense of place.
